Stability in spite of change

Based in Cologne, Germany, Humboldt Wedag Coal & Minerals Technology GmbH, a subsidiary of the KHD HUMBOLDT WEDAG International AG was acquired by the Indian plant construction specialists McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd. (MBE) in October 2009. A world leader in design, supply of plants and equipment for mineral and coal processing, MBE Coal & Minerals Technology GmbH looks back upon a one-hundred-and-fifty-year tradition in its field and is poised to continue to provide its customers with specialist know-how, state-of-the-art technology, skilled employees, and a comprehensive service.

Foundation of “Maschinenfabrik für den Bergbau von Sievers & Co.“ in Köln-Kalk with focus on manufacture of screens, drum washers, jigs, percussion tables, simple conveying systems and mills for mining.
1871
In honor of Alexander von Humboldt, a famous German scientist, the company changes its name to “Maschinenbau AG Humboldt”.
1884
The company revises its name to “Maschinenbauanstalt Humboldt AG”.
1918
Due to the post-war inflation, Maschinenbauanstalt Humboldt AG has to give up on the majority of the production line.
1930
Merger of Maschinenbauanstalt Humboldt AG, Motorenfabrik Deutz AG and Motorenfabrik Oberursel to „Humboldt-Deutz-Motoren AG“.
1938
Further reorganization and change of the company’s name to „Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG (KHD)“.
944/45
Complete destruction of the KHD workshop by bomb raids.
1964
Rebuilding of the KHD workshop.
1972-75
Merger of KHD and Wedag AG to “KHD Industrieanlagen AG” and later to “KHD Humboldt Wedag AG”.
1990s
A period of restructuring starts; KHD Humboldt Wedag AG starts refocusing on the cement industry and the coal and mineral processing industry.
2001
The financial investor, MFC Bancorp Ltd. acquires a majority stake in the holding. MFC Bancorp subsequently pushes more intensely into the industrial plant and equipment sector and renames the company to “KHD Humboldt Wedag International Ltd.”.
2009
The Coal and Minerals Technology subsidiary is acquired by the Indian company McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd. (MBE) and renamed to “MBE Coal & Minerals Technology GmbH”.

Based in Kolkata, India, McNally Bharat Engineering operates with approximately three thousand employees and boasts an annual turnover of around three hundred million Euros. Its competences are plants and equipments for mining, iron & steel production, and power plant construction.

As the name implies, MBE Coal & Minerals Technology GmbH concentrates on the development, manufacturing and installation of plants and equipment for coal and minerals processing. The basic engineering is carried out in Cologne and the detail engineering work is handled by the colleagues in Kolkata. The German subsidiary currently employs two hundred people and generates fifty million Euros per year. It has worldwide representatives and subsidiaries such as in India, China, Russia, South Africa and Brazil.
